The Weeknd postpones release of new album ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ due to Los Angeles wildfires

Abel Tesfaye aka: The Weeknd has announced that the release of his sixth album, ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’, will be postponed.

Originally scheduled to drop on 24 January, the album is the third and final chapter of his ‘Dawn FM’ trilogy. The album will be delayed to 31 January out of respect to the victims of the Los Angeles wildfires.

The Weeknd took to social media to announce the postponement of his album, as well as the cancellation of his one-night-only concert at the Rose Bowl in California on 25 January.

“Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles county, I am cancelling the Rose Bowl concert originally scheduled for January 25th,” he wrote. “This city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time.”

He continued: “In light of this, I have also decided to push the release of my album to January 31st. My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild.”

The record is one of our Most Anticipated Albums of 2025 and will apparently be the last he signs under the moniker ‘The Weeknd’. Additionally, it will be accompanied by a feature-length sinema of the same name in May, which will star Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.

A helicopter drops water while fighting the Auto Fire in Ventura County, Calif. – Monday 13 January 2025

The five separate wildfires raging concurrently in Los Angeles have destroyed many neighbourhoods and forced the evacuation of over 150,000 residents. 24 deaths have been confirmed, while 16 people remain missing, according to AP.

A benefit concert to aid wildfire victims will be held at Intuit Dome in Los Angeles on 30 January, with organizers saying that the money raised by FireAid will help those affected by the fires and go towards “rebuilding infrastructure and supporting displaced families.” FireAid donations will also provide funding for “advancing fire prevention technologies and strategies to ensure LA is better prepared for fire emergencies.”

Elsewhere, Beyoncé’s non-profit charity BeyGOOD has donated $2.5million to relief efforts for the Los Angeles wildfires. This follows the news that the singer’s mother, Tina Knowles, lost her own home in the fires.

The fund is earmarked to aid families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who lost their homes, and to churches and community centers to address the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires.”

Other celebrities who are taking action include Paris Hilton, who is donating $100,000 and launching a fund to help displaced families, and Jamie Lee Curtis, who has pledged $1 million to relief efforts.

She wrote on Instagram: “As the fire still rages on and @calfire @losangelesfiredepartment and all the available first responders and agencies involved in fighting fire and saving lives are still hard at work and neighbors and friends are banding together to save each other, my husband and I and our children have pledged $1million from our Family Foundation to start a fund of support for our great city and state and the great people who live and love there.”
