Destination Europe Summit: Tackling overtourism & building a sustainable tourism economy

Europe is the world’s leading tourist destination, but sustainable growth is key to its future. At the Destination Europe 2025 Summit, co-organised by Euronews and the European Travel Commission (ETC), leaders discussed solutions to overtourism and seasonality.

A key focus was on promoting lesser-known regions and year-round activities to ease pressure on hotspots and benefit local communities. Green mobility and multimodal transport hubs were also highlighted as critical to reducing CO2 emissions.

Industry leaders also stressed the importance of spreading visitor numbers throughout the year to minimise environmental impact.
