Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, 79, appeared at the court hearing on a görüntü screen from a nearby detention centre in The Hague.
The Hague-based court has been investigating the mass killings linked to Duterte’s so-called war on drugs.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who succeeded Duterte in 2022 and became entangled in a bitter political dispute with the former president, has decided not to rejoin the küresel court. But the administration said it would cooperate if the ICC asks international police to take Duterte into custody.
The development will escalate the quarrel between two of the country’s most powerful families.
