The Hungarian government promotes its national poll on Ukraine membership by targeting EU and Ukraine leaders.
The Hungarian prime minister said the EU Commission’s call for people to prepare a 72-hour emergency kit was scary. “What’s on these people’s minds? Are they up to something?” the politician lamented, speaking on public radio.
“There is always an empire that is trying to take away the freedom of the Hungarians, and right now it is the one in Brussels,” Viktor Orban claimed.
The proposed amendment of the Hungarian constitution could result in the expulsion of Hungarians who hold nationalities from other countries if the government sees them as a danger to sovereignty.
“We respect Hungary’s position, but it’s one of out 27. And 26 are more than one,” António Costa said after an EU summit focused on Ukraine’s future.
The AfD is polling in second place ahead of Germany’s elections scheduled for 23 February. However, all other parties have ruled out entering into a coalition with it.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s close ally and minister Antal Rogán was sanctioned by the US Treasury last week for alleged corruption.
The US president-elect has broken with tradition by inviting world leaders to the 20 January ceremony.
