Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he will only agree to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin after a common plan is reached with US President Donald Trump.

Other leaders such as President Tokayev of Kazakhstan have welcomed political dialogue between Washington and Moscow.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the conversation between Trump and Putin covered a good deal of ground, including the Middle East and Iran, but that Ukraine was the main focus.

Trump posted the details of his conversation with the Russian President on his social media platform, Truth Social.

Less than a day before that announcement, US media reported that Donald Trump had had a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to discuss steps towards a negotiated solution.
